A Few Favorites in Fiction

From book club selections to blogging about books, I thought I'd share a few favorites. When clients, in particular, have tried reading as a relaxation strategy, they have often asked for some recommendations. From women's fiction with a little romance laced within the pages to a riveting whodunnit or thriller with DC intrigue, you may find it on this list.

eBooks can be read on your own device with a FREE Kindle App. Different editions featured, but usually the least expensive options.

The Perfect Couple, great narration on Audible and read on Kindle, too. Get one of these before you watch it on Netflix!  Kristin Hannah's The Nightingale takes you to Nazi occupied France (Kindle) while Melanie Benjamin delves into the Lindbergh story in The Aviator's Wife. The Personal Librarian is historical fiction, with family and one's identity the themes, amid racism.

Discover a dysfunctional, extended family in The Nest, in contemporary times. Lessons In Chemistry, another debut novel, was Barnes & Noble Book of the Year when it launched. Definitely read before watching the Apple TV series. Married life, parenting, career ambition and excavating one's childhood memories—sound familiar—you'll find within the Kindle version or hardcover of Nathan Hill's Wellness.

As this page launches, it's an election year. Elin Hilderbrand had that in mind in 2020 when she wrote 28 Summers. John Grisham read not one, but two, articles in The Atlantic that inspired The Rooster Bar, and while no real politics, there is the backdrop of Georgetown.

Bill Clinton and James Patterson teamed to pen The President Is Missing while Hillary Rodham Clinton and Louise Penny collaborated on State of Terror. I made lists of the characters and names to keep them straight. Page turners, for sure.

I highlight Maryland authors John DeDakis, using his years at CNN to pen novels with Lark Chadwick, a White House correspondent. FAKE was thoroughly enjoyable. Robert Bidinotto has a thriller series starting off with Hunter, set in Washington, D.C. as well.
