Currently, clients must be Maryland residents in order to receive telehealth services or what we call online therapy. When the Counseling Compact goes lives, therapists will be able to see clients in other states that have similarly adopted the Counseling Compact. Maryland was an early adopter of this.
How this works is nuanced and evolving. When in doubt, you can always sign on as a coaching client. Yet, if there is a mental health diagnosis, it's therapy = healthcare = delivered in the state in which clinician is licensed and client resides.
When you're strictly looking for career, parenting advice, how to get along with an estranged or ex-spouse or how to deal with difficult people, coaching may be the least restrictive modality.
VSee Telehealth Platform
This practice adopted the VSee Messenger App for telehealth or online therapy prior to the global pandemic and stayed with it since. VSee is encrypted and available free of charge for smartphones, tablets and computers. You'll be given a specific link to connect with your therapist/coach. Use only this link to set up for online therapy.
